Washington State Department of Natural Resources: a state agency that provides a wealth of knowledge about forestry and water quality; includes information on obtaining firewood cutting permits and offers a variety of free publications.

Small Forest Landowner Office: a resource and focal point for small forest landowner concerns and practices

Forest Practices Office: information on harvesting timber, building or repairing forest roads or culverts, thinning your forest

International Society of Arboriculture: information on proper tree care and how to locate a certified arborist in your area

National Arbor Day Foundation: extensive tree information and tree care tips

The Forest Stewardship Program is a nationwide program which provides advice and assistance to help family forest owners manage their lands.  The program is a cooperative effort between the USDA Forest Service and state forestry agencies.  In Washington, the program is administered by the Department of Natural Resources Small Forest Landowner Office (SFLO). Forest Stewardship Coached Planning is a six-to-nine week short course (depending on location) designed to assist private forest landowners in writing their management plans.

Insect and disease control: DNR forest health program offers Animated Maps Of Insect & Disease Damage:State and federal forestry agencies have cooperated to produce annual aerial surveys of insect and disease damage for over 40 years

The Susie Forest: SCD provides trees and labor to The Susie Forest, which is a community action group started by Nancy MacKerrow in honor of her late daughter, Susie. Trees are planted in honor or in celebration of people and events

Community Canopy: a partnership program between the cities of Hayden, Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene, City of Spokane and the SCD, to promote healthy and sustainable community forests

City of Spokane Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry: a great resource for many urban forestry issues including permitting & licensing, right-of-way plantings, street trees, and proper pruning techniques

Reforest Spokane: a program of the Spokane Parks Foundation that accepts donations to plant street trees in the neighborhood of your choice

WSU-Spokane County Extension Office: the Extension office partners with businesses, communities, and volunteers to focus on enhancing the local economy, enhancing natural resources and the environment, and enhancing economical opportunities for agriculture. The office is located just across the parking lot from the SCD!

Master Gardener Clinic: the clinic teaches sustainable landscaping, water conservation, water quality protection, pest management, invasive species control, and they staff the seasonal Plant Clinic & Resource Center, which offers plant and insect identification and a variety of publications and resources. The plant clinic is located in the WSU-Spokane Extension Office building, just across the parking lot from the SCD.
