Rooted in Industry

Long before it became a hub for innovation and conservation, the 50-acre site at 8th and Havana in Spokane Valley was an industrial workhorse—once a mining site, then an asphalt plant supplying material for local roads.

A Vision Reimagined

In 2017, the Spokane Conservation District saw potential in this overlooked Spokane Valley site. After purchasing it, SCD spent 18 months with the community and experts creating a 10-year Campus Master Plan blending technology, conservation, and community.

A Growing Hub for Community and Sustainability

By 2019, the site began its transformation with a renovated building for SCD offices and a nature-based preschool. Next came the Aspen Partnership Building, designed to support collaboration around sustainability. With the addition of the Scale House Market—offering local produce, vendors, and a teaching kitchen—the Quarry is becoming a vibrant space rooted in community and forward-thinking land use.
