Recruitment for VSP Work Group Members 2025

The Spokane Conservation District (SCD) is looking for new members in the Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP) Work Group. The VSP provides a non-regulatory approach meant to protect and enhance environmental critical areas in and around agricultural areas, while maintaining and improving the long-term viability of agriculture in Spokane County.

Spokane County opted into the State of Washington’s VSP in 2011. The program is an alternative approach to regulatory action. The VSP monitors the quality and quantity of critical areas and provides technical and financial support to landowners interested in voluntary stewardship. In 2016, the county designated the SCD as the lead entity to develop and implement a workplan to meet legislative requirements. This includes formation and facilitation of a citizen work group to support workplan development and implementation. In 2018, the Washington State Conservation Commission approved the workplan and SCD began implementation with the work group. More information on VSP and the Work Group can be found on our website at Voluntary Stewardship Program – Spokane Conservation District (spokanecd.org).

The Work Group consists of local community members, including representatives from the agricultural community, the Tribes, local and State Agencies, and the Academic community. Members help guide and approve decisions of the VSP to meet the goals and benchmarks of the established work plan.
